kert fox died after a car crash during a holiday trip home his sophomore year in college at duke university. it's been 20 years since that happened, and another 3 or 4 since the last time i had seen him, but this morning i realized that he's still there in my speech patterns from when were kids -- i still respond with kert's quizzical "pardon?" (rather than my old custom, "what?") when I have not clearly heard a question.

I haven't seen any mention of Kert on the web, I wonder what he'd have thought of this digital world... at any rate, his name at least ought to be out here in cyberspace.

Rest in Peace, my old friend, you are missed.
